Dr. Scott E. Tarry.

Scott TarryDr. Scott Tarry is the Director of the Aviation Institute. He received his MA and PhD from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and his BA from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington.  He also attended Memorial University in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada.

Professor Tarry joined the faculty of the Aviation Institute in 2000 after teaching at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois and American University in Washington, DC.  He teaches courses in airport administration, planning, and development, and international aviation.  He also serves as the advisor for students pursuing an Aviation Administration Concentration in the MPA degree program and teaches graduate courses in aviation policy and airport administration.

Dr. Tarry currently serves as President of the Transportation Research Forum, a national organization that promotes collaboration between industry, government and the academy on issues of transportation policy.  He also serves as Chair-Elect of the Section on Transportation Policy and Administration of the American Society for Public Administration.

Professor Tarry's current research focuses primarily on rural and small community air transport. He serves as the principal investigator for an interdisciplinary research team engaged in collaborative research on the NASA sponsored Small Aircraft Transportation System program and has served as a faculty research fellow at NASA's Langley Research Center.  He currently participates on the National Consortium for Aviation Mobility (NCAM) Transportation System Analysis and Assessment Working Group, which is evaluating the potential impact of SATS on mobility within the national air transport system.   His work on aviation has been published in the AIAA Journal of Aircraft, Journal of Air Transport Management, Transportation Journal, Journal of Air Law and Commerce, International Interactions, Global Society, Journal of Air Transportation, and Public Works Management and Policy.

Dr. Tarry holds a Private Pilot certificate, rides a Bianchi Virata, and lives in Omaha with his wife, Mary, their two children, and a Chocolate Labrador Retriever named Moose.
