
Mr. Denny Acheson .
D.K. (Denny) Acheson is a retired member of the Aviation Institute faculty and holds the rank of Faculty Emeritus. A former Senior Community Service Associate in the College of Public Affairs and Community Service, he has instructed a variety of aviation courses in his capacity as a full time faculty member. He continues to serve in an adjunct faculty role when needed. During his tenure with the Aviation Institute, Mr. Acheson was a long time Chair of the Public Administration Department’s Undergraduate Committee and a member of the College of Public Affairs and Community Service’s Curriculum Committee. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in History and Political Science from Purdue University and a Master of Political Science from Auburn University. A veteran U.S. Air Force Command Pilot, he acquired nearly 5,600 flying hours, primarily in C-130 and KC-135 aircraft. His military education included Squadron Officer's School, Air Command and Staff College, the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and the Instrument Pilots' Instructor Course. Mr. Acheson retired in 1989 with the rank of Colonel. He was funded by the NASA Space Grant Program to provide a summer Aerospace Careers Exploration Academy which he first conducted on the UNO campus in 1993 and the program has evolved into a Nebraska-wide annual program. A Life Member of AFA, he is a past president of the Nebraska State Air Force Association as well as a Life Member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and Daedalians. The UNO College of Continuing Studies named him Teacher of the Year for 1999-2000. He was inducted into the Purdue University ROTC Hall of Fame in April 2002. He retired from full time teaching in May, 2004.
